THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK! Love and Respect is one of the finest books I have read on the topic of male female communication. As this book gains more and more exposure it will go down as a must own in Christian marriage counseling. This book has been a great read so far for my Fiance and I. Looking at Marriage there are so many preconceived ideas that you entertain but getting the Biblical perspective of someone who has been at it for a while as well as the perspective of someone who looks at the man and wife relationship from a different angle than most has proved most helpful. Life changing book. This book gives a whole new perspective on marrige and the cycles of fighting. I never imagined that giving respect to my husband was so critical to having a working and loving relationship. I was also enlightened about my need to be loved and my need to express my emotins in order to move closer to my husband. It is crazy how men and women interpret the same conversation in 2 completely different ways. this is a great book for anyone in any stage of their relationship. I wish that I read this before we were married, it would of saved years of ups and downs.~Amy

Incredible book! I've read many relationship books, and this is by far one of the best! I saw the authors in person several years ago, when they were first coming out with this message for couples. Absolutely had to get the book and now I've gotten it as a wedding gift for a few of our friends. The ideas in this book are Christian based, and also very practical. I like that the authors give real-life examples from their own marriage, ones the reader can relate to and chuckle about. :) Definitely a book to get if you're looking to improve and/or save your marriage. It will give you fresh insights into the needs & wants of the opposite sex!~Lisa

A life changing book. No matter how good your marriage is--you will learn something helpful from this book! I have never read a more realistic book on marriage or its real issues. Every woman wants to be loved unconditionally--no matter how bad her day or mood is, she still wants her man to love her inspite of the way she comes across. Every man wants to be respected unconditionally even after he makes mistakes or has comes across in a "less than perfect" manner. Emerson helps both husband and wife be able to meet these deep and basic needs in each other. The result is a loving and pleasant marriage and home. Not only does Emerson clearly articulate our marriage problems and issues, but he has a simple and easily understood solution. He does this in such a way that even after you lay the book down you will still remember what it said and how to apply it to your life. It doesn't get better than this. Read it today!~Sharonu

Changed my way of thinking in our tense moments. This has to be the most important book I've ever read on marriage and communication between husband and wife. My husband and I have a very good marriage but I've always been left frustrated when we would have our times of,as Emerson puts it, being on "the crazy cycle". Realizing the pink/blue glasses were on has made so much sense to me. I finished the book less than a week ago and started putting his advice to work the day I started reading it, I have to say I've seen some amazing things happen. Most importantly knowing that I'm respecting my husband for God really helps to calm my spirit when I feel unloved and thus want to hold back showing my respect. It just isn't biblical to do that! This book may be filled with difficult things to face but it is so, so true. I am hoping my husband will find this book as informative as I have. He loved the light shed on things in "Five Love Languages" so I suspect he will. I can't wait to use Emersons advice on how to change the response we have when we feel unloved or disrespected. It is exciting to think we can work as a team to change our behaviors. I highly suggest this book for everyone considering marriage, everyone who is married, and even those who have suffered divorce.~M

Part 3 is a must read! I'm giving this book a 5 star only because Part III (Rewarding Cycle) gets a 7 star, because it's THAT good! Part 1 and Part 2 are pretty much straightforward which talks about the Crazy Cycle and the Energetic Cycle. (4 star each) What makes Part 3 so great is because of two reasons:

1) It centers on Christ!
2) Love unconditionally is the theme.

You see, husbands shouldn't love their wives just so they want respect and wives shouldn't respect husbands just so they want to be loved by their husbands. No, it doesn't work that way. There are many examples in part 3 that talks about how husbands love unconditionally or wives respect unconditionally and gradually see a changed spouse in a matter of months! The key is to first love Christ. When you do, loving & respecting your spouse will be a piece of cake. I would pay the price of this book for part 3 alone if I have to so since I got Part 1, 2 & 3, it's a bargain. But in order to understand part 3, you must read part 1 and part 2. Don't worry, it's a quick read and you don't need a Ph.D in English to understand what Emerson is talking about. Of course, like every book out there, reading and understanding is just the beginning, once you apply to real life, you'll be glad you read this.

Also Part 3 has many different Bible verses along that talks about loving your spouse unconditionally. Just think about it, if you can forgive and love your enemies, how hard is it to love your spouse that way? Reading this book is like eating a sour lollipop with a sweet core. Part 3 is the sweet core and once you have past through the sour candy, you will reach to your destiny, which is a happy and lasting marriage.

So in short summary, if you are not getting love and/or respect from your spouse, first, pray to God and ask for His strength in you AND your spouse. Secondly, wait for His calling. I wish you (& your spouse) the best, and God bless...~J.L.

Different than any other book I've read. My husband & I studied this book a year into our marriage. The concept of Love & Respect and the Crazy Cycle were things that we were so oblivious about. I would recommend this book highly to anyone who is struggling to find more in their marriage. It has strengthened our relationship more than I could have ever imagined. It's a great read but try to slow the pace when studying it & implement what you learn every chapter. The results will be amazing to both you & your spouse.~J.T.

MUST READ! Okay, I am not done with this book yet. I checked it out from the library and within the first few chapters, ordered a copy for myself and 2 more to give as gifts! It is the best book on marriage relationships I have ever seen and I highly recommend it - even though I am not finished with it yet! The concepts are ones we should have known already. They come from the Bible. I love when a book points out the obvious, and I say to myself - "If I had just payed attention to what the Bible said all along ...." Anyway, this book is very true to life and it really changed the way I view my marriage. I finally realize - after many years - that we are very normal! I think every married and engaged couple desparately needs this book! It will really change the dynamic in your relationship and truly help you to understand your mate.~L

In 28 years of marriage, this book has brought the greatest understanding of ourselves and each other than any we have read (and no, it's not the only one) There were many eye openers for each of us. Must read - For better understanding of men. I have been married for 13 years and my husband and I are very close and have a very loving relationship. I wasn't sure if I was going to read this book but it came very highly recommend, so I did. For every women out there it is a must read, I gained so much insight about my own husband. Excellent Marriage Advice. This is the best book I have ever read on the interaction between husbands and wives. The Bible-based concepts Eggerichs and his wife set forth are outstanding. Just the understanding of how and why conflicts escalate out of control is worth many times the price of the book. My wife and I both read the book - there are sections for husbands, sections for wives, and sections for both - then strongly recommended it to our four adult children and their spouses. BEST MARRIAGE BOOK I'VE EVER READ - A MUST HAVE FOR EVERY COUPLE. I've read a lot of marriage help books over the years, and hands down this is the BEST book I have ever read. And this is coming from a gal who grew up in a society bombarded by the feminist movement. While the movement did enable women to have more choices and rights, I believe in the process we lost sight of how to truely love and value our husbands...By giving them UNCONDITIONAL RESPECT. I was highly convicted while reading this book, yet encouraged that I had finally found something that "fit". I cannot believe how accurately Eggerichs describes the basic needs of men and women that could be found in Bible verses I have read all of my life. One of the best couples books we've ever read,. My husband and I read through this book together, and instantly realized that it got to the heart of the things we've been arguing about since we got married more than 10 years ago.
